Who sent me a Christmas box from Popcorn Factory, thank you. It was delicious and devoured, in that order. Unfortunately there was no identification of who sent it, so I'm hoping it's someone who reads this blog.

Huh. That doesn't look like as much traveling as there actually was.
This next year promises more travel. NYC next month, Argentina (if we get it organized already), WisCon in May, PDX or MSP or PVD in the summer, Greece/Turkey in the fall. That's not including the regular monthly visits to Lesser Outer Heck, or the random weekends up to Seattle (well, Everett), or the impromptu roadtrips or weekends away (already thinking of the Russian River Valley (god, I love that place) and farther north).
I better plant more trees.

This is my last day of work in Marquette. It feels surreal. I'm wearing my How Ood shirt, to cheer me up. It's not that I haven't come and gone at different jobs, I usually only work at a place for two or three years before I get bored and move on, but I think that this is the first time I've quit jobs that I've liked. And, well, the whole moving thing. ( this got long )

I have been euphemistically called a "larger woman." I'm about 5'6" and weigh, recently, around 245 lbs.
The funny thing is, I've been losing weight because I'm not hungry. I haven't been feeling sick, but for the last couple of months or so, I've had a little bit of upset stomach pretty much all of the time. I eat like crap, so that may be part of it, but I've been eating like crap my whole life and it's only lately that I've been having the stomach thing.
Today, I ate a piece of toast with a couple of teaspoons of peanut butter, a Burger King double cheeseburger (they're on the dollar menu!), and a BLT. I think I had maybe three or four cups of coffee, about 6 oz of Mountain Dew, and a handful of potato chips. Adding it all up, it comes to around 2/3 of my normal food intake.
The stuff I've seen online talks about menopausal weight gain, or maybe weight loss due to depression or anxiety. But if anything, my mood has been rather stable this fall. I haven't had my usual outbreak of autumnal fey.
To the newcommers -- I like my body. It feels very me. So I don't have that "Yay, I'm loosing weight!" thing. Instead, I'm feeling a "Erm, what's going on with me?" thing.
I think that this has something to do with estrogen. But increased estrogen causes appetite loss. And I'm pretty darn sure that my estrogen levels aren't increasing. It may just be that my years of poor eating are catching up with me and I've got a stomach thing. Or it may be that my metabolism has slowed down and my brain is re-establishing my set levels. But I don't think that's normal; I think I'm just supposed to get fatter. Then again, I have cold flashes instead of hot flashes.
Anyway, enough noodling. I'm going to take a bath. My feet are freezing.

I note here that the only time I've had health insurance was when I was pregnant and got Medicaid, and when Mike was in Iraq. Perhaps I will have health insurance again some day. But it won't be because the people who are wealthy and in power understand my life or actually give a fuck about me or my family.
This afternoon, I listened to a snippet of NPR and some woman was saying, tears in her voice, "I've worked hard all my life. But I was laid off and now I (sob) don't have any health insurance."
And I should have been sympathetic. I don't know anything about this woman or what she's going through. But all I could feel was a kind of sour pleasure -- yeah, that's the way it is. Welcome to my world. The whole jist of the piece sounded to me like "But I'm not one of those people."
Ya, you are. That's the point.
